EFFECT:
A large bloom wilts upon the magician's command.
PERFORMANCE: This effect requires no preparation prior to its presentation. It can be easily repeated without resetting. The Wilting Flower is often used in conjunction with effects requiring audience participation. The Wilting Flower is constructed with a strong, but flexible spring. Pulling on the gold ring on the bottom of the stem caused the flower to wilt. Releasing the tension causes it to upright itself. A quick glance at the flower will show you the direction of the "wilt". It leans towards that direction. To operate the flower, place your little finger in to the gold ring. Hold about one inch of the stem between your thumb and index fingers. By pushing up on the stem with your thumb and index fingers and pulling the ring down with your little finger, the flower will wilt. You can control the timing by the speed of your upward thrust and downward pull on the stem. A slow bend looks humorous and natural. Do not be concerned about the ring showing. If audience happens to notice it, they will believe it is a finger ring.
CURTAIN CALL: Clowns put it to good use as a very effective walk around sight gag. It stands well on its own or can be used effectively in conjunction with other effects to build a solid routine. You can ask a spectator if he feels strong today or if he brushed his teeth this morning, then have the spectator blow on the flower and let it slowly wilt. The reverse can be just as effective. Produce the flower in a wilted state and have someone sprinkle some miracle fertilizer on it to make it grow. This is a natural for a pitch man's routine.
